As a father and a Christian, I feel that it is my duty to teach my children the truth about God to the best of my ability. To those who object to ramming religion down their throats, let me assure you, I do my best to separate my opinions and traditions and what is laid out in the Bible. While I try to teach the truth as I understand it, I also want God to work on their hearts as He sees fit. Once I caught him staring out the window of the car, apparently lost in the sunset. Whatcha doin , buddy? I asked from the drivers seat. I praying, he answered. As I listened, I could hear him talking under his breath. Another time in the car, we were admiring another sunset. Do you know why God paints the sky like that? I asked Patrick. Its so we can understand how beautiful He is, and how much He loves us. We drove a little farther, and the road offered us a better perspective on the changing colors in the sky. Audrey and I gushed about the sunset, then I heard a small voice from the back of the car, full of awe and humility. God loves me. Yes He does, son. And Jesus saith unto them, Yea; have ye never read, Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings thou hast perfected praise ? -Matthew 21:16b Sometimes I need to stop teaching and learn something from my little boy and his pure, unspoiled communion with his Creator.
