As a lifetime Yankee fan, Im proud that the classiest team in sports had as its team captain a ballplayer who embodied class, incredible fielding, clutch hitting and a modest demeanor. When, at the end of this season, he retires from the field, I and countless others will miss him. I lived in Cooperstown for 27 years and attended many Hall of Fame inductions, but since moving south 7 years ago have missed the annual ceremony. But when Derek Jeter is admitted I will be there.
