Im not complaining, I love to play and have chosen this as my career so it is what it is, but what other job market pays, roughly, on the same scale as it did 30+ years ago? While decreasing your work hours. I recall, in the early days of my career, older players telling me of the great drought of the late 70s, how bad it got when Disco ruled the world. Bet those old timers are now turning in their (gigging) graves. Its gotten a lot worse now than it was then. In those times, yeah you might have to play stuff you dont necessarily love, but if you were adaptable, gigs were still there. Nowadays, well, like the article says, gigs are down as much as 80%. Im thankful that Im able to earn any kind of a living playing my guitar, in that regard Im truly blessed. Just wish the gigging scene hadnt fizzled as it has...
