As a non practicing historian (whatever that is), I am fascinated, yet disturbed, by what is happening in Washington. I can think of no historical parallel in American History. This ends justifies the means mentality of a minority of politicians is contrary to our Constitutional system and the norms that sustain it. There is an end game but a certain Speaker needs to show courage at this moment to maintain those norms that have sustained our Republic.
