As a sports and soccer fan I was sad to see soccer player Landon Donovan announce that this will be his last season. As someone who has become his friend I couldnt be happier for him. Though I will never be the greatest American anything, I do have an understanding of spending your whole life pursuing a passion, a goal, a dream, and coming to a place where you just cant do it all, every day, any more. To become successful at what you do is certainly a blessing but can also be a burden that nobody wants to acknowledge for the rich and famous...Landon has played a soccer game most every week since he was 7 years old! Beyond the field he has gone to great lengths to do every interview, shake every hand, and help every kid knowing that he is THE role model for his sport. I will miss watching his skill and sportsmanship next year...but more I will miss his example of what it is to be A Great American Athlete...He has made us proud...and I for one celebrate his decision...with a smile and red eyes...Thanks LD...
