As a tribute to Pete Namlook and to Klaus Schulze and the music of both, here is the exact transcript of what Klaus sent me on .mp3 in his exclusive 2007 interview for my book, Klaus Schulze: Electronic Music Legend: GA: How did you meet Pete Namlook? You’ve described the process you use in putting together your solo albums. Could you describe the process you and Pete (and sometimes Bill Laswell) employed when creating The Dark Side of the Moog series? KS: I had an interview with a guy from Frankfort. He was coming to my house to do the interview and he brought Pete with him, because they knew each other and Pete wanted to meet me. He just said he’d like to bring the friend (Pete) with him and so I said, “OK, no problem”. Then, when we were here after the interview, we [Pete and Klaus] had all the small talk. We were talking about various things and we finally decided that we liked each other very much and to do some music together. It worked very well. The special thing with this meeting, which was for me also very funny, was that Pete said, “Klaus you have here all the Moogs. They’re old instruments for us, they’re just dreams and you have them here and you don’t use them. What do you think about using them, especially for our “Dark Side of the Moog?” So, they used the old instruments and I said, “OK, why not?” and I was myself surprised because I hadn’t used them for ten years. We came also to the name, when I started to play the Moogs again. We said, “OK” and we made a kind of a joke about Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon and The Dark Side of the Moog. And always on the project, Dark Side of the Moog, we used modified Pink Floyd titles. That was just a game. The music has nothing to do with Pink Floyd. So we started [unintelligible] live together. We did a concert together and then through his connection to Bill Laswell, Pete said once, “Let’s add a bass player to that.” It was Bill Laswell and I said, “OK, no problem”. We made three or four records together, but I never saw this guy. It was all sending tapes backwards and forwards or via computer. This is the story of The Dark Side of the Moog, which is not any more existing. We stopped the project. We just thought after 10 CDs, it’s enough. Probably we will start a new project but how that will look or sound, nobody knows yet. It will be a surprise also for us.
