As a writer and music lover I subconsciously make comparisons to every genre of music with Hip Hop because Hip Hop seems to be, perhaps only by circumstance, the collage that is more susceptible to adaptation. When listening from one song to the next in a vast myriad of music Hip Hop throws me off in the sense that most of it is competitive with itself or, at the very least, egocentric, whereas other genres tell a thousand tales that wont even mention the artists self. I make it a personal task to do that with Hip Hop a lot of times; eliminate the ego, tell stories from a third person perspective, while first studying for the concept I am trying to convey. This is what I mean wherein I say that there is no competition... one may find themselves in competition with me, but that version of myself is a character created by another character that I created and only one of them is a character that i use to share my understanding of other Hip Hop artists.
