As a young man, he challenged his family and tribe’s worship of idols to the point that they wished to burn him alive for his actions. As he grows older and is finally blessed with children in old age, he follows Allah’s commandments and he builds the sacred house that millions of Muslims around the world still visit. One of the most distinguishing characteristics of Prophet Ibrahim (as) was his willingness to do whatever Allah (swt) commanded of him, without questioning – whether it was leaving Hajar with their infant child in the barren desert, or his readiness to sacrifice his son Ismail. Due to his outstanding strength and obedience, Allah (swt) took Ibrahim as a “khalil,” or “friend” (4:125). Regardless of the hardships that Ibrahim (as) faced, his gratitude and willingness to accept all that Allah (swt) placed in his path was beyond comparison. We are missing the example of Prophet Ibrahim (as) in our lives. We often have a hard time committing to doing what Allah (swt) has commanded of us without first hesitating, denying or even “fatwa-shopping.” Those of us who seek nearness to Allah (swt) through supplication know that He Hears all dua. And in turn, we need to hear His commandments and follow in the footsteps of Ibrahim (as), hearing and obeying. “Praise to Allah, who has granted to me in old age Ishmael and Isaac. Indeed, my Lord is the Hearer of supplication” (14:39). Register for Visionaire Online 2015 right here: VisionaireOnline
