As an American I am hurt by the progress (or lack thereof) of our nation, but more importantly ourselves as citizens. Im not here to argue over the Michael Brown case because the decision has already been made. Im just asking for everyone to take a step back for a second. It seems like every controversial topic or idea polarizes Americans so much that neither side is ever willing to even consider a compromise. Whether the debate is over black or white, democrat or republican, gay or straight, Christian or Muslim, etc; very few people seem to consider the effect this has on our capabilities to make positive changes for everybody. Its easy to point fingers and place the blame on others for our own insecurities and shortcomings; its hard to look in the mirror and realize we have to change ourselves before any real change can happen in society. There is a very real, tangible potential for greatness in America, but the first step in solving any problem is admitting there is one. What youre supposed to do when you dont like a thing is change it. If you cant change it, change the way you think about it. It is time to stop fighting over ideas and personal agendas and start fighting for each other. WAKE UP.
