As an Atheist I feel a direct connection to the universe. I feel connected to it all, some times in good ways and sometimes in difficult ways, sometimes in stress and sometimes in joy, but always connected. To be divided into a soul and a body that most religions require, to have a supernatural, detracts from this connection. When I was young there was a TV sign off clip one of the stations played and it has always generate a deep feeling in me, almost to tears at times, that reflected a connection to the world I felt but could not understand until I acquired enough science and listened to enough Alan Watts and learned enough of other religions of the world and found the connection that a religion without a god that Buddhism offered. I am not a formal Buddhist but a spiritual one. My connection to the world and the universe has resulted in a deeply spiritual experience that require no spooks but just an appreciation for the wonder of existence that arises from the universe itself.
