As an educator I was very interested to watch the ABC s program Q - TopicsExpress

As an educator I was very interested to watch the ABC s program Q and A last night to see what the Assistant Minister Susan Ley had to say about the cuts to the CSF. I was very disappointed that the childcare issue was only given three minutes at the end of the program. As it was, it was enough time, because it showed me that the Assistant Minister clearly has no knowledge or understanding of the industry that she is supposed to represent, by making the statement childcare belongs to the working week of the last century not the 24/7 economy in which we live now. I have been an educator for over twenty five years and I have always supported the 24/7 economy. I have worked late night for parents who are going to tafe, uni, and the entertainment industry, overnight for parents who work in essential services, weekends for parents who work in the retail sector, extended hours for parents who commute out of area, parents of children with a disability, parents who run a small business and the largest growing area grandparents who need a little respite. I can only speak for myself , but Im sure there are many Family Day Care educators who also support the 24/7 economy. So before you make a such broad and generalization statement next time Minister do your homework so you can have a better understanding of the industry you are supposed to represent.
