As announced earlier this year, the Department of Defense has determined that the imminent threat of physical harm to U.S. military personnel due to civil insurrection, civil war, terrorism, or wartime conditions has been significantly reduced in a number of countries within USCENTCOMs Area of Responsibility (AOR). Effective 1 June 2014, Imminent Danger Pay (IDP) is no longer authorized for service in Kuwait, Qatar, UAE, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. IDP does continue in Afghanistan, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Yemen, Egypt, and Pakistan. Many of your financial entitlements will remain in effect, including Combat Zone Tax Exclusion (CZTE) for all countries listed above with the exception of Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan; non-taxable Thrift Savings Plan contributions; Savings Deposit Program (SDP) contributions; and combat zone tax exclusion leave. This change doesnt mean we value your service less; it does mean that because of your efforts those countries are in fact more stable than they were a decade ago. Every day you prevent confrontation from becoming conflicts, shape the AOR through engagement with partners, and set conditions to win. Thank you for what you do for our nation every day. defense.gov/news/newsarticle.aspx?id=121426
