As anticipated, a crisis happened late Thursday afternoon after a huge volume of students went to pay their tuition fees. The Student Union had already contacted the administration previously that day, informing them that the student flow at the bank was above normal, which would lead to a difficult situation later on the day. The Union had also made it very clear that the overlap of both the registration deadline and the fees payment deadline, was hindering the students from efficiently completing both processes. The Student Union had hoped that those legitimate concern would be met with understanding and quick action. However, this was not the case, the administration only allowed the bank to remain open until 7:00 PM, so that more people could pay, and did not postpone the deadline. Along the course of the day and especially in the afternoon as the situation started to intensify, the Student Union communicated the situation with the administration multiple times, and again emphasized on the previously mentioned concerns along with asking them to postpone the deadline. After hours of waiting, after 4:00 PM, parents and students erupted in anger from the large queues and demanded the extension of the tuition payment. At this point and after the escalation of the situation administration contacted the Union, and after a period of deliberations has decided to postpone the deadline until Monday. The administration’s inability to understand the gravity of the situation put students, CIB employees, and parents in a situation where their security and welfare are compromised. The student body, the CIB employees, and the any present parents deserve a formal apology. As on our behalf and because this was not done by the administration we would like to send apologies for the students and parents who were effected by such stubbornness to enforce a stupid policy. We would also like to send our apologies to CIB employees who were in this hassle and thank them for their support regardless. We would also like to thank the students who helped contain the situation with the SU and thank Mr Sergany, head of accounting office, for his large support. The Union would like to urge all student to settle their accounts by Monday the 15th, as anyone who will not do so will have their courses dropped automatically. However, if you encounter any problems in the process please do not hesitate to contact us on [email protected]. Like Thursday, the Student representatives will constantly be at the bank to aid you in any possible way.
