As coaches we want players who are “on fire” for our team. We want players who “live” our sport and don’t just “play” from time to time. As athletes we should want to excel to the highest level possible. We should not be satisfied with less than our total “sold out” effort. That is exactly what God wants from us. The author of Hebrews tells how to reach that “sold out” level. We are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken. How hard would we compete if we believed with all our being that the outcome would be the biggest victory in the history of sports and we would be on the winning team? That is what God promises us. “Our God is a consuming fire.” There is a big difference between a flickering candle and a raging forest fire. The power of our God is like a raging forest fire. Nothing can stand in its way. That is how we are called to approach life – with a “sold out, burning fire” attitude. Hill/Schugars
