As discussed, as per my emphasis: what is most interesting about the concept of mutation is the process of ‘change’ between two (or more) states-of-being, or two (or more) registers of experience (or two {or more!} formulations of storytelling)... Again (for my reductive little graph): it is the ------------------- between 1-----------&-----------2... Indeed: the in-between flow of movement – or a ‘becoming’ – flanked inside 2 (or more) (un)stable nodal points... Really: mutation is the very ‘stuff’ that constitutes our movement thru time: it is the essence of the most *basic form of identity*, a self-hood that bespeaks a Self that is not static and not One: but, in fact, waving, drifting, and flowing into difference. Yet the scheme does not end with the process itself, even if it’s impossible to mark the ends of mutation (that is, if ‘mutation,’ when it comes to identity, is a life-long process of change and becoming that never really ‘ends,’ at least in the traditional sense of ‘endings’): no, not here: but reaches into areas that -intensify- the possibility for mutation in the first place… or into forms of latent mutation waiting to break free and replicate in the presence of a perfect catalyst... Like: what are the forces that prompt particular kinds of mutation? What kinds of exposures, experiences, and encounters potentially ‘trigger’ various mutant processes and tangents? Within? Without? Beside? Inside? ??? But let me break it down further… Still: how -close- DO WE NEED TO BE to the {radiation} IN ORDER FOR IT to affect our-selves (in the first place)? How -hot- must the {radiation} be to begin its wedging into our-selves? Into the deepest recesses of our-selves, between the soupy particles of our DNA? To damage us with disease, deformity, and toxicity – or imbue us with the Uncanny and the Transcendent? Or, better yet, if we are to look into the eyes of that one, Mr. Darko: a fusion-like mix of disease AND transcendence?... ???: Lets keep some of these questions in mind as we move deeper into this unit. There is much to unlock here, of course, in the interim of our lives sitting before the Screen and its brilliant waves of {radiation}...
