As everyone is aware by now there was an emergency call at the Ohio University Southern Campus in Ironton earlier this evening. A male wearing dark clothes and a handgun on his side was seen walking down a hallway. The students who witnessed this were alarmed because it was out of character to see a person in the building with a gun. They alerted school officials who contacted law enforcement. Emergency procedures were activated and The facility was put on lock down and searches were made of all buildings. While searches were being conducted, video surveillance was reviewed and it was discovered that the person in question was a Brinks person doing a money pick up. Thankfully this situation ended up being an innocent situation. However law enforcement and school officials must act in a serious manner until all possible threats are dispelled and we can assure that everyone is safe. Every law enforcement agency in Lawrence County was represented at this campus today which speaks volumes about how serious we are about keeping our schools safe and Lawrence County safe. I want to thank all law enforcement agencies for their quick and professional response, all school officials for their quick actions and cooperation, and to many citizens for the help and information they provided.
