As far as am concerned, the most ridiculous bill Ive read about in recent times. The Nigerian government is not all out to get internet users. Its like the governments priority is totally misplaced. The proposed Cyber-Crime Bill 2013, which is pending before the House of Representatives, expressly states that anybody who “insults publicly, through a computer system or network” commits an offence and will be liable on conviction to imprisonment “for a term of not less than five years or to a fine of not less than N10m or to both fine and imprisonment.” So if you are in Nigeria, according to this bill, comments you make on blogs, Facebook, Twitter, and other social media platforms could potentially land you in jail. If this isnt a violation of freedom of expression, I dont know what else is.
