As far as the last post is concerned; You dont drop a 100-kt jet streak into the MW/Eastern US in July w/out something going boom. Its going to be an extreme cool down coming to our area. I mean like temps in the 60s for highs and low mid 40s for low. Its going to feel very fall-like in mid July. For this to happen, there needs to be a big pattern swing. Like a winter, what causes pattern swings? Big storms. So the conditions are very favorable for large, supercell thunderstorms as well as a very strong squall line. The 100 kt jet streak is just an area of really fast winds aloft that aids in shear which, combined with a lot of other factors, is what allows thunderstorms to strengthen. This is also close enough to the surface that storms can tap into these winds aloft and bring them to the surface producing a devastation straight line wind bow echo. Its very complicated but just take away from this that this upcoming week (Monday-Tuesday) is primed to be an extensive severe weather outbreak for the mid-Atlantic and north east. Stay tuned.
