As for me and my house… Are we to follow man or Christ? - TopicsExpress

As for me and my house… Are we to follow man or Christ? There are those who seem to be an authority on Scriptures today catching up many well-meaning Christians in deception. It boggles my mind to see what I consider men of God who fall prey to these teachings. I suppose it is because we have a tendency in our zeal to defend our doctrines and claims, to listen to the minds and hearts of men rather than the mind and heart of God, and then we “proof text” the Scriptures to justify our claims. God said, “My thoughts are not your thoughts, or your ways my ways… For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.” (Is 55: 8, 9) The real issue is about control. Jesus said, “For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He has a demon. The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, Look, a glutton and a winebibber, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!…” (Mt 11: 18, 19) As the Message puts it, “John came fasting and they called him crazy. I came feasting and they call me a lust and a friend of the riffraff.” (The Msg) In today’s vernacular it might read, “You criticized John for being serious and sober. You criticize Me for being happy and free-spirited. You just don’t like what God is doing…because you don’t want to lose control.” It is obvious we are to follow Christ when man deviates from Scripture. Paul said in 1Co 11: 1, “Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.” Paul kept on course and stayed true to the doctrine of Christ. He was stating here that we could follow him because his message was always the same, Christ and Him crucified, but if his message changed, to follow Christ. In fact he said in Galatians if any man or even an Angel preached a different message to let him be accursed. In John 8: 36 Jesus said, “Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.” You are free not only to not sin; you are free to follow Christ, even when those around you choose to follow man. If you are following Christ, I’m with you. If you are following man, I have to side with Joshua as he said, “but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.” (Jos 24: 15) Blessings!
