As husbands, we are called to lead our households....our wives and our children. We are the head of the family. However, being the head does not mean that our wives and children are to serve us...it means that we serve them. Jesus said, the greatest among you will be your servant. So if you want to lead, then you need to understand that you are called to give your all on behalf of the ones that you are leading. No one follows a person simply because they call themselves a leader. You have to consider: What are you leading them to? You must have a vision for yourself and for those you are called to lead...and you must know how to get them to their place of promise and into their God-given purpose and destiny. People will follow the ones who will love and care for them, because a true shepherd cares for his sheep, and he gladly lays his life down for them. If you think that being the head means that your family is supposed to serve and honor you while you lord it over them...you need to repent. That is not the picture of biblical headship. Real leaders honor, respect, love and sacrifice themselves for their followers; because they know that their followers are under, and therefore affected by, their sphere of influence and authority. A leader who has no followers is just a person who is taking a walk. And those types of people often find themselves walking alone. So, since leaders lead, naturally they are first. That means that as a leader, you should be the first one to pray. You should also be the first one to sacrifice...the first one to confront the enemy...the first one to provide and protect...the first one to give...the first one to make and keep peace...and the first one to follow and obey Christ...who is your head and your leader. The motto below says it best. * Those who lack the ability to follow, will never be fit to lead. Our world needs good leaders. Do you qualify?
