As im nearly at the end of John Muirs book My First Summer in the Sierras, it seems fitting that im beginning my first fall it the Sierras...ive made the leap and have started moving my gear up to Grass Valley...taking advantage of the sunny fall weather, i cruised east up Hwy 20 and at around 5000 feet is a sweet vista point...looking east you can see the crest of the Sierra range with the Sierra Buttes a prominent feature...the two towns of Grass Valley and Nevada City are steeped in gold rush history, and the downtown districts still have most of the original buildings intact and a down home rustic feeling...i have good friends that im moving in with, and another friend (who was a housemate in the early 70s) has owned the music store in town, Foggy Mountain Music, for 40 years (its the first business on the right in pic #2)...so i do have pals here already...i will miss all of my Santa Cruz people, but am excited to be only 30 miles from views like this...ill have many new adventures to experience and share...
