As in previous years, in 2013 Heavenly Creatures spent most of its donated money (which is all we have - we receive no government funding) on veterinary care; the better part of $150, 000 was spent at local vet clinics on the animals we rescue. The remaining small percentage of our funds went for pet food and supplies, office expenses (office rent, phone, and so on) and fundraising expenses. In the last month alone (i.e. from the first week of Sept. to the first week of Oct), Heavenly Creatures paid a few dollars shy of a whopping TWENTY-FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS for veterinary care for the many animals in our foster program (as well as on animals whose owners are low-income and needed a helping paw): Sunrise Animal Hospital: $11, 700 (paid by two cheques and $700 in cash donations that went directly to the clinic) St. Johns Veterinary Hospital: $10, 000 (paid by one cheque) Paradise Animal Hospital: $3, 295. 18 (paid by two E-transfers) Total: $24, 915.87 Which is why we have been blown away by the hateful rumours circulating about us. As a result of a high-profile cat (Fruggles) case last month, a few people - most of whom we dont know - who didnt agree with our initial decision in that case, have banded together online and have been making some horrible, untrue statements about us. There have also been vicious e-mails sent to and about us; there has been a lot of hiding behind online anonymity. The majority of these detractors are people who have no firsthand experience with us, much less have any access to our books; we have screen shots of several of them admitting they dont know us, and have no proof of any wrongdoing, yet these same people have made malicious statements about us. Cyberbullying is alive and well. Theyve falsely accused us of everything in the last few weeks from having torn up Fruggles face ourselves, to laundering money to volunteers and our presidents relatives (the only money that has ever been sent to volunteers, or board members were legitimate transfers for reimbursement for purchased pet and fundraising supplies - we have all the receipts), to having foster animals killed by other groups, to neglecting our own pets, to stealing the charitys funds to exploiting animals for money. Their main focus surrounds us having hired a pet psychic. That was YEARS ago in a last-ditch attempt to find some missing foster cats, and was NOT paid for by donor dollars - our presidents aunt sponsored the consultations. Were not wasting donor dollars, and no one is getting rich off the backs of homeless animals - were volunteers who are breaking our backs saving homeless animals! We work so hard to save homeless animals, and it breaks our hearts to think that even one person might be led to believe otherwise because of this viciousness. It seems that some people think they can say what they like on social media these days whether or not it is truthful. If you witness any libellous statements about HC, please screen shot them and send them to us at [email protected] One of our ardent supporters has offered to pay for a lawyer if need be, and we will pursue libel lawsuits if it comes down to it. The almost hundred rescued animals in our foster program are living proof of our good work, and how your donations are spent. We feel our thirteen years of good work speaks for itself. However, in 2015 we will post our audited financial statement for 2014, so that people can see the breakdown should anyone have any doubts. Please see attached screen shots of the recent cheques and E-transfers to the three different vet clinics that comprised the $25, 000 we spent on vet care last month - THIS is who we are and what we do. We are not getting caught up in this, but felt we should post some sort of statement; we are going to get back now to focusing on what we do best: saving lives.
