As it happens, the drive for the Matrix is being generated by the market. Our friends at Microsoft in fact (And Google with Glass just before) are creating and seeding this market. At such point the Internet becomes a global world wide wait (again) as the load of 3d environments tax our planar conceptions, the Matrix goal will be vindicated. Any time spent on Second Life shows that even with OK bandwidth and effecient vector graphics processing, the bottleneck will be the bandwidth. Now that Microsoft is breaking us out of the page with practical propositions, increasing demand will ensue as apps that leverage this technology pop up everywhere. The Matrix need not be pod-destrian distopia. But rather the Matrix will be an organic extension of the real life we already have. Let the innovation from the software that ensues be grown on our networks and on our soil.
