As it stands now, we are currently tied for the 5th coolest July (on the 126-year record) through the first 17 days at Kansas City. While many have been out there enjoying the beautiful weather...many of our Facebook friends have expressed concern over what we might be in for during the month of August! Will we see extreme heat?? Continued cool?? Well, based on the Climate Prediction Centers forecast for the month of August, which was released yesterday, the area stands to have an equal chance of above, below, or average temperatures and precipitation for the month. As far as temperatures go, the Northern Plains and Upper Midwest are expecting a higher percentage chance of experiencing below average temperatures with a better chance of above average temperatures in the Southern Plains to the Southeastern U.S. The local area is wedged in between these two areas. Drier conditions in the month of August are expected along the Gulf Coast with a better chance for above average precipitation from the Southern Rockies into the Western High Plains. Our local area as well as much of the eastern half of the U.S. is expecting an equal chance for above, below, and normal precipitation.
