I encourage and insist that anyone seeing this post make the time to watch the linked documentary called Earthlings narrated by Joaquin Phoenix. It is disturbing, it is saddening and it is harrowing. It is also, for me, maddening. It sickens me that in the 21st century we still inflict all kinds of cruelty on animals and people to pursuit only profit for self interest. earthlings/?page_id=32 You cannot watch this and not be changed by it. I am not promoting a Vegan lifestyle. I dont see myself stopping eating meat any time soon, but the more aware the general public becomes, the more conscious, the more compassionate, the more positive changes can be made and the less unnecessary suffering. Ironically, if slaughterhouses operated behind glass windows everybody would be a vegetarian. Why is it that we have laws against cruelty and yet millions of animals can be slaughtered in the most cruelest of ways every year on the planet? We have made some progress with awareness. It is a positive development that animal cruelty is a punishable offense in many countries now, as is the paradigm shift about chicken farming. But so much more needs to be done. In a pervasive pattern I am becoming all too familiar with now, corporate greed and the sole purpose of capitalism being human profit and comfort, is behind the disgusting killing methods of animals we eat and clothe ourselves with. The animals we consume, we wear and we entertain ourselves with, go through unimaginable suffering, way beyond a simple bullet in the head of a violent execution with a sudden death. Their life is a living hell. And as all things in our corporate greedy extreme capitalistic structure of living and surviving, we are kept in the dark about the most basic elements of how our meat is produced. That meat you put on your BBQ or celebrate with at Christmas, or that you leisurely eat while sipping juice or drinking coffee for breakfast, went through more pain in its life than you can even imagine. The first step is awareness. I dont proclaim that avoiding eating meat is the way to solve the problem, but protest, gain awareness, spread the knowledge and a refusal to buy and eat meat that has not been slaughtered humanely. By all means become a Vegan. Eating meat does give us cancer. This is a proven fact. Eat it knowing this. The methods exist to execute animals humanely but they are not used because they reduce the profits of the corporation. Joaquin Phoenix, narrator of Earthlings makes a clear irrefutable statement - ignorance is our species first line of defens, yet it is easily breached by anyone with the time and determination to find out the truth. Ignorance has prevailed so long only because people do not want to find out the truth. You will be forever affected by what is in this video.
