As many of my friends already know, I personally see heavy metal as existing before the guitar was even invented (off the top of my head Bachs D minor Toccata, Mozarts Don Giovanni and Requiem, etc.). Though Im a huge Black Sabbath enthusiast, I wonder whether the 60s had more to do with inventing the guitar-driven subgenre of heavy metal than most people would first guess. I mean, there were Steve Marriot and Janis Joplin in full wail, the Jeff Beck Group, the Kinks, My Generation, Voodoo Chile, and of course the video below.
