As many of our friends know, Kimberly (and the whole team at Black Swamp Bird Observatory) recently led a get-out-the-vote campaign that resulted in our local hotspot, Magee Marsh, being named the top birding destination in the USA by a USA TODAY 10Best readers poll. A few people suggested that this was a frivolous thing to spend time on, but thats far from the truth. Heres a fine essay by Tom Henry, an award-winning environmental writer, talking about how Magees victory in this poll can have a positive impact on the local habitats and even on regional water quality. And thats the point: we promote birding to promote conservation.
