As many of us know, Utica will be playing Licking Valley this evening for tonights Friday night football matchup. Another thing that may be apparent to many of us are the recent events surrounding Licking Valley mainly due to accusations brought against the school by this Freedom From Religion organization. Now, I am fully aware that many people will not agree with this post, and could very well oppress it. However, it has been brought to my attention that many of the students from Licking Valley would like to show their support for the band in the wake of these events after tonights football game on the field. If you have a background to these events, this group has made a public outcry about the shirts that the entire band was wearing for one of their performances that said Salvation on the front of them. These shirts dont depict any Jesus Christ salvation views, its based upon the pieces that the band has prepared for this season. Furthermore, I support everyones right to believe what they want to, but I am disgusted by the reaction of this group for having such thin skin, and getting so offended by a shirt with the word salvation that has multiple different meanings in ANY dictionary you look in. If youre reading this, please share it, and if it is all possible, I ask that you please show support for the student body by joining them after the game for prayer, because that is what has been asked of me. Students are allowed to show their religious beliefs as much as they want, and I believe any member from the community can as well, it becomes more of a problem when a faculty/staff member becomes a part in the events. And one more thing.. Thousands of schools across America have been/are raised upon Christian values and beliefs. The fact that in todays society that students can hardly display their religious belief at all, that we have bigot people freaking out over a shirt that doesnt have to do with these views anyhow, and that teachers today are let go and suspended for having a bible on their desk, is appalling. If these people want something to freak out about, well, heres something better. Support it or not. That is your own right. But we as Americans have the right to support this as much as we want, and NOONE should be allowed to take that away from us.
