As many of you are aware I was President for the past 2 year and have fulfilled my term of 2 years, in hopes someone would step up and take the term of Presidency for the League. Almost 2 years ago there wasn’t going to be a league and my family has been involved in the league for the Kids. The league was to offer the community 2 sports that kids love, football and cheerleading. Last month, 2 board members (2 Knights coaches) took it upon their selves to basically disband the board. 3 members of the board and no idea what was going on, while other members of the board, in order for the votes to be swayed in their favor, they offered them Coaching and Assistant Coaching positions, to guarantee their position with the league. How does this affect the community? Coaches whom have been coaching far many years and have been associated with the league with not get to coach anymore. The coaches for the following year have been already choosen therefore you as parents are stuck with whatever coach that was picked for you. In previous years, all interested coaches had to fill out an application and present themselves to the board and the board would vote (per ByLaws Guidelines). They have decided to form only 1 team. What does this mean? Your child will have to ‘try out’ to make the team, but if you are good friends with the coaches and become an assistant you are automatically on the team. If you are brand new, you may not even have a chance and if you are friends with someone whom happens to better well both most likely won’t be on a team. They said they would turn parents away to other leagues in the Tri-City area. Decisions were made last month that affect next year in which this year’s board wasn’t supposed to make. Decisions for next year needed to be made by members of the board for the new year. The Secretary Term was terminated and she had 1 year left on the league, the Director of Cheer position was terminated and she had 2 years left with the league. The Vice-President had 2 years left, however he just voted himself to be Club Leader for next year. The Treasurer position was available for election, he decided to vote himself in to be Co-Club Leader. The President position was available for election. The Director of Coaches had 2 years term left, Director of Equipment had 2 years term left. The Director of Fields had 1 year remaining for their term. This league was to supposed to be about the kids and this upcoming season, unfortunately it will not be about the kids. It will be about if your child is good enough or good friends, he will have a spot on the team. It is unfortunate it has boiled down to this and when this League was formed many years ago, it was formed based on ByLaws, with this 2014 Season the board changed the ByLaws many times to fit their needs, not the needs of the parents. Tonight at 6:00 pm will be the last meeting for the 2014 season, basically many Knights parents already know what’s going on because you all were probably already filled in and of course Rebels parents have no clue what is going on. I urge all concerned parents to come out tonight at the Civic Center at 6:00 pm to express your concerns. Technically the board was all disbanded last month, so I gather this will be an informal AGM meeting which by the way is against what the ByLaws state on how these proceedings should be handled. Supposedly the positions that are supposed to be voted in have already been pre-determined. Also, Sponsors, a huge Apology from me, The Director of Sponsors which is also the Vice-President was supposed to have given me a list of Sponsors for the 2014 Season and unfortunately to this day, I have yet to receive the list, even though it has been requested in about 4 board meetings. So if you sponsored this year, please send me your information. I have enjoyed the 2 years as President and always remember it is truly about the kids. I know for a fact many either love me or hate me, but it is a Thankless Responsibility to keep a league going to follow guidelines and resources you are given, but to me as long as they are happy and enjoying the sport that is all that is important at the end of the game.
