As many of you know, on Sunday morning 3/2/14 around 5:00, I lost my last Grandparent Martha Lee Pope Carpenter. She was a Godly woman who was a tireless worker for St. Marks Lutheran Church in Claremont, N.C., even being named Mother of the Year one time. She was also known for her housekeeping (she kept the house in immaculate shape) and cooking (my favorite among many foods was her green beans with fatback being her secret ingredient). She even stopped everything she was doing one time to fix me and several of my fraternity brothers some pizzas on the spur of the moment as we came by Claremont on our way to Raleigh for the Western Carolina/N.C. State football game. She loved to most sports like football, basketball, baseball (maybe that was Grandpa), but golf was her favorite sport with Phil Mickelson the one she pulled for the most. Coming to the game late in life around her late 40s or early 50s, she enjoyed playing the game with her friends mostly at Glen Oaks and Rock Barn Golf Club, and didnt play too bad of a game while mostly known for her squatting putting style. She had a lot of common sense about her, so anytime I had a problem with something, she counsel me well. She was a great woman and now is in a much better place, it does seem ironic that she passed away in the room right beside the room my Grandma Hager passed away in!! Love You Grandma Carpenter and thanks for everything!!
