~*~ As most of you already know, I prefer to get all my have-tos finished by early day.. ..and this day was no different.. By 9am I had accomplished moms, the creatures, and my owns, search and seizure for sustenance at the local grocery store.. This requires methodical planning, so as to avoid taking out a second mortgage or giving up the first born.. (The prices are shocking) So, I am waltzing down each aisle, reminiscing to the Muzak channel, and wondering when Nazareth became easy listening.. when I became aware of how many folks were wearing earbuds, and/or blutooth. Some folks with dazed looks, and periodically humming out a chorus to a song only they can hear.. Some folks yapping up a storm, to an unseen, unheard voice, obviously replying to them.. A few on speaker phone, so that we ALL can know their business.. and I believe one guy was writing a letter on his pad thing. .with his vocal control.. One thing they all had quite in common, was their ability to tune out their surroundings.. .. oblivious to the others around them.. .. carelessly stepping in front of you, or ignoring your pleas to get the hell out of the middle of the aisle... Or for crying out loud, corral your children or I will eat them.. (just kidding.. I dont do that anymore) My point is, that these folks were tuned out.. When you tune out.. you isolate yourself.. when you isolate yourself, you lose awareness.. Losing awareness, opens opportunities for mistakes .. .. blah blah blah...and the domino effect continues. I see this every where I go.. not just today.. but every day. I chose this subject to mini sermon on, because it has gotten to a point of concern for me. I, as we all, enjoy cool technology, instant gratification, and controlling what we see and hear.. But when you continue this practice, and either suffocate yourself with depressing info, OR only to what brings you joy.. you lose out on the balance of what is part of life. LIFE includes outside noise, interaction with humans you do not know.. (this requires social skills and it cannot be learned in just a book) Life includes bad and good and laughter and tears, good days, bad days, humans, unruly kids, animals, rain, sunshine, something that works, sometimes it does not.. and HOW TO DEAL WITH IT ALL.. Absolutist have a hard time with these matters.. and I see a trend of more folks becoming such.. This is not healthy.. Not healthy for anything, no matter the subject. Growth cannot begin, much less continue, in yourself, or your spirituality, if you lose your ability to care.. This can include something as mundane as shopping in public.. Care that someone spoke to you, smiled at you, needs help getting a product off shelf, looks sad?? , SO SMILE AT THEM, and YOU say good day!.. Think outside of yourself.. Stop focusing on what YOU want.. and let life be.. let it evolve, .. let it flourish, .. Find joy in anothers joy.. Have compassion for anothers unfulfilled moments.. Laugh with another, even over the serious stuff.. (trust me.. it might seem tasteless, but a joke can be found in every thing) This is not telling you to piff off responsibility, or anger, or standing up for yourself, or to even stop continuing to earbug you eardrums into deafness.. I am reminding you that just because you ignore life for your own personal desires, does not mean life will not go on with out you.. It will not make problems fade.. I will not change more than the moment you are in.. Selfish personal desire fulfills little. When you go out into the world next time.. join us.. acknowledge our existence.. laugh and cry with us.. or just smile at us.. Be considerate of your actions, .. Be thoughtful in your words.. The ME generation is spelled with the first two letters of the the word MEAN .. I dont wanna be mean.. You dont wanna be mean.. We want peace.. .. and that can be attained thru understanding, education, communication, and patience... Non of that can be attained thru isolation.. Cmon.. join the world..
