As most of you know September is Childhood Cancer Awareness month. Our oldest son was a vibrant, active teenager until he was diagnosed with Ewings Sarcoma Cancer. It is a chromosomal cancer and is caused by 2 chromosomes that cross contaminate one another in the womb. It typically reveals itself between the ages of 14-21, but does affect younger and older age brackets. One never thinks their child will be affected by cancer, but when it happens we have no other choice but to battle it. We witness our children go through treatments, hospitalization from the side affects of cancer, sickness, hair loss and fighting with every ounce to beat it. Our children become an inspiration, because they keep on fighting and keep a spirit that glows everyday! As a family we have no other choice but to focus on helping our child and siblings are often left not understanding why everything has to be about the sick child. Witnessing their sibling go through all the emotions and affects of cancer can leave them confused, sad and mad at times. Parents are left to juggle home, work, treatments and take each day one day at a time. My prayer and hope is that this month will bring a change with our government and they will pass a bill to allocate more funding for childhood cancer research. I pray that those battling cancer currently and their families will be given hope that their children do not have to go through what we did and other families. Research is the key and #ourkids deserve it! “Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the law my servant Moses gave you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, that you may be successful wherever you go.
