As most of you know, myself and Pamela Krumvieda have been working - TopicsExpress

As most of you know, myself and Pamela Krumvieda have been working on a proposal to bring the 2016 American Dairy Goat Association’s Annual Convention to Fort Worth, Texas. There have been numerous phone calls and emails, my trip up to Portland, Maine, and Pam and I taking a tour of the Hilton Fort Worth (downtown). Our enthusiasm and creative juices were sparking, and the Hilton looked like a lock. But ADGA refused the site, citing room costs and lack of on-site parking. From the beginning of this effort we knew of only two Fort Worth hotels that would accept live animals on their premises, which is a requirement for the Spotlight Sale animals, and their auction toward the end of convention. The Hilton was one. The Radisson in north Fort Worth, near Meacham Field, was the other. ADGA offered to award us Convention if we would accept the Radisson as our site hotel. Pam and I refused. The Radisson is located in depressed area, and one known for crime and gang activity. We could not in good conscience accept a location that would put conventioneers in a dubious area. Further, so much of what we had planned which would have made Convention exciting was dependent upon the festive and pedestrian-friendly atmosphere of Sundance Square, downtown. The Radisson would mean all convention attendees must have a vehicle and must travel independently to any entertainment venues or restaurants, etc. With the Hilton, there would have been free Molly the Trolley rides, low-cost shuttles, and so many wonderful things to do within easy walking distance of the hotel that guests could leave their cars at home, or park them for the week and let someone else do the driving. We are disappointed with ADGA’s decision, but made our own decision to elect not to invest two years of hard work and effort in a project so likely to wind up with a mediocre result because of an inferior location. Thank you for your interest and support. Maybe next time!
