As most of you know this is Noah. Noah was diagnosed with Biliary - TopicsExpress

As most of you know this is Noah. Noah was diagnosed with Biliary Atresia at birth. Some facts on biliary atresia: Biliary atresia is a disease of the bile ducts that affects only infants. Bile is a digestive liquid that is made in the liver. It travels through the bile ducts to the small intestine, where it helps digest fats. In biliary atresia, the bile ducts become inflamed and blocked soon after birth. This causes bile to remain in the liver, where it starts to destroy liver cells rapidly and cause cirrhosis, or scarring of the liver. Unfortunately, there is no cure for biliary atresia. The only treatment is a surgical procedure in which the blocked bile ducts outside the liver are replaced with a length of the baby’s own intestine, which acts as a new duct. This surgery is called the Kasai procedure after Dr. Morio Kasai, the Japanese surgeon who developed it. Noah had his kasai procedure on June 8 2010. Recently Noah has been hospitalized due to complications of this disease. Test after test has been done trying to determine the recent rise in his liver enzymes and still yet nothing has been determined. Noahs family will travel to OKC this week for and exploratory surgery. The Doctors are hoping for best case scenario to find a kink or blockage in the intestine that is not allowing bile to flow properly. If a kink is not found Noah will be diagnosed with progressive liver failure at the age of 4. Not only is his family having to deal with stress of a sick child, his mother Sharon Spencer-Law was also diagnosed within the last month with Thyroid cancer. This is more than one family ever deserves to have to deal with. We are asking that everyone please pray and support Team Noah in this hard time. Thank you in advance for all your care and concern!
