As much as I love Japan, my terrible Citibank Japan banking - TopicsExpress

As much as I love Japan, my terrible Citibank Japan banking experience continues to torment me even two years after departing the country... I just got an overseas phone call from someone at the bank that despite multiple attempts over many months, they are still unable to close my bank account there because there is one Japanese Yen (that is 1 cent) in the account... and because my signature on the form I sent in agreeing to forgo all claims and legal rights to the one Japanese yen doesnt exactly match the signature on the bank card I signed while jet-lagged in August 2007 when opening my account, I cannot forgo my one Yen and I cannot yet again close my account. I finally said to the Japanese lady who called me, Ok, so what would you do if you were me? And she said very politely, Be very annoyed with us. I deeply apologize to your for your inconvenience. Unfortunately this is Japan. :)
