As much as we respect progressive party like AAP for giving hope - TopicsExpress

As much as we respect progressive party like AAP for giving hope for country and teaching us how to win elections without giving money and liquor to voters, we need to reject such regressive statements. If we do not, we lose one other good party to vote bank politics. I believe those statements are made by keeping Haryana elections in mind. -------- Loksatta fought for right to assemble and form societies but it is against groups that run parallel administration and take legal matters into their control. Wise words From Dr. Ashwin Mahesh, National leader of Loksatta party Khaap panchayats may have some cultural origins and character, but they have no place in 21st century India. Any institution that tramples on the civil rights of people in the name of culture should be wound up. And anyone who commits crimes in the guise of such setups should be locked up like any other thug. The incapacities of the state may create vacuums that are taken up by others, but why should this have any legal sanction? If we did this, next well be saying the same thing about Naxals, separatists, and many others. Its a very slippery slope. The way to tackle this is to move civil rights enforcement to federal police, by default. Once the local police are taken out of the ambit of policing what passes for culture there will be more political willingness to act against them. Whereas otherwise, everyone who is eyeing their vote starts to make excuses for their misconduct and crimes.
