As my friend Brian Spaeth says - we now have the best of both worlds: An Orwellian violent terrorist authority combined with Huxley’s high-tech spying and calculated media manipulation! What Orwell got wrong was that this was not a communist plot (though most Neocons do come from a commie background); rather it was Huxley who got it right: say hello to the modern totalitarian corporate-run global state! Link to prescient interview: youtube/watch?v=AzgqWTJkZlU Why the astonishing willingness via social media of the populace to abandon any and all personal privacy? All of this “sharing” on social media doesn’t make one an interesting person, but it certainly can make you a “person of interest”… That said I’m onboard with manipulating social media for my own commercial interests! That some browsers become consumers is undeniable, however it is not clear if any form of engagement or interaction by the seller makes this happen. I only shop online for something I can’t find in person in a retail outlet (formerly known as a store). Afterwards I’m punished by the seller by asking to take surveys; have to take the time to unsubscribe from email sales notices, and annoyed to the point of madness by seeing ads targeting me with whatever it was I bought or looked at buying! I am considering decreasing my already painfully pitiful FB participation and working the possibly greener pastures of Pinterest. Is anybody using it effectively to sell anything?
