As of 2 p.m., Typhoon Vongfong was located 295 miles east of Guam with maximum sustained winds of 80 mph. The typhoon is moving west-northwest at 21 mph. The island is currently in Condition of Readiness 2 (COR2), which means damaging winds are expected to impact the island within 24 hours. According to National Weather Service forecasts, the typhoons closest point of approach, around 65 miles from Guam, will be at 4 a.m. tomorrow. Winds will start to pick up between 9 p.m. and 12 a.m. tonight to tropical storm force winds with sustained speeds of 39 mph or more. At the typhoons closest approach, Guam can expect 55 mph winds with gusts of 65 mph. Winds will be slightly stronger over northern Guam, according to a National Weather Service forecast.
