As of tonight, Bud Meattey is no longer Chief for the Erving Fire Department. He was informed tonight that the “Selectmen” decided to appoint Mr. Wonkka as Chief. (It seems like the Selectmen’s goal has been achieved as they have been attempting to do this since January with no luck.) This is just speculation and opinion. Mr. Wonkka was the remaining candidate that was selected by the Fire Chief Search Committee which was created by the “Selectmen.” The committee itself was unsound because it was supposed to be a 9 member committee. When the interviews and selection took place, there was only an 8 member committee present. Last Bud knew, they started mediation to try to resolve any issues that have been created. After 32 years on the Erving Fire Department and a lifelong resident of Erving, this is the thanks and respect he gets as a Firefighter that has put his own life on the line to save others countless times in the last 3 decades. We would like to thank everyone who has shown tremendous support for Bud in these last few months. It has made a big difference by opening people’s eyes to the situation and is greatly appreciated.
