As part of the Global GovJam, San Francisco was one of over 35 locations around the world jamming on how design could be applied to the public sector. A secret theme, HC SVNT DRACCONES (or translated to Uncharted Territory), was revealed at all locations to guide teams in selecting the public problem or space they wanted to focus on over the two days. After some intense contemplation and analysis over this puzzling theme, the SF Public Design Jam was off and running with seven teams all tackling very different public-facing issues, ranging from homelessness to lack of support for public school teachers. In two days, each of the seven teams were able to conduct research to better understand their problem space and the needs of their public customers, come up with a concept for a new or redesigned public service, and finally build prototypes of their future service to share how this new experience would work and feel that included interactive screens, storyboards, videos, physical models, and skits.
