As plans for our marriage fell into place with ease, Sunflower - TopicsExpress

As plans for our marriage fell into place with ease, Sunflower Song and I searched our hearts to locate a title or a name for it. The usual - wedding, union, commitment ceremony, and the like - didnt sit well with us. We wanted something special, something that made sense... something that told our story as individuals as well as the story of our future. Fortunately, we believe that what is meant to be, will be. And the secret is to notice when it is right. So we decided to wait for the story to present itself. Three weeks ago, during a difficult sweat lodge, I was meditating on my life. During this time, I noticed how my actions and decisions throughout have danced me on a path to where I was at that very moment. I realized then that this place is where I am supposed to be. It is part of the path that leads to my final destination. My mind was racing but my thoughts were smooth and clear. I discovered that the joys in my life were more joyous and the sadness and pain along this journey no longer hurt. My heart was open and forgiveness was pouring in. I was at peace, I had found myself. And I had found the answer (and the nickel I lost). Knowing some of Mavis story, and enough to see that within the differences there are similarities, I recalled a beautiful little story inside a much larger story. That little jewel was Our Story. It is a story of two rivers - two rivers that start in two different locations completely... two rivers, near a thousand kilometers each, that dance across the land. These African rivers are known respectively as the Blue Nile and the White Nile. Each of these rivers has a very long and wonderful history but their history is only a small part of their story. Their story, like our story, really begins when they meet. And when they meet, it is in the middle of the Sudan, the largest country in Africa, near the city of Khartoum. That meeting in that place which creates the Nile proper (the longest river in the world) is captivatingly described by Arabic poets as The Longest Kiss. With that inspiration I knew in an instant Mavis would love my choice. After the lodge, as we walked hand-in-hand, barefoot across the crisp autumn grass, she looked at me and I said, I know the name of our story: The Longest Dance. With the look on her face, the tears in her eyes, and the increased pressure upon my hand, it was obvious to me that the dance had begun.
