As promised….. Last night our officers and other investigators arrested a 30-something year-old male in one of our store parking lots. He drove there to meet a female. Many times there is nothing wrong with that scenario…this time there was. The subject had been communicating with a person who he KNEW to be 15 years old. There was no doubt about her age….we know this from the communications…particularly his concern about the “cops” finding out. We found out…and he is now at the men’s bed and breakfast. We also seized his computer, phone and some…lingerie. The whole case was a little unsettling, particularly hearing of the messages he sent to her, offering to teach her things and buy lingerie. Rest assured, I cleaned that last sentence up before typing it. I know I have said it on our page before and it needs reaffirmed. Your children need to know that you will check on their Internet well being at times. The Internet, smartphones and all of the other gadgets are not babysitters….and they can put your child in harm’s way. You know I am not a “sky is falling” kind of guy…please just pay attention to what is going on. I do not want something like this to happen and us NOT be there. I would like to thank my officers…Sgt. Dumont who led the case, along with Sgt. McCarty and Officers Gyoker and Atha. I am also in debt to the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC) from Cuyahoga County. They have great investigators and are a top-notch crew. Whether it is on the streets, cornfields or the World Wide Web….we will work 24 hours every day to keep this community safe…..Chief Oliver.
