As promised here is a video on how I wrap my hair at night to keep it organized which reduces breakage and frizz by a lot! NO MORE BEDHEAD ;-O This technique also takes my hair from curly to straight without the use of heat! The more nights I wrap the straighter my hair becomes. (in this video I had my hair wrapped for ~ 3 hours prior to filming and my hair is naturally type 3A/B) Fully stretched or wet my hair is just shy of my middle back. Wrapping really allows your hair to stretch without putting too much tension. Regardless if you are wrapping, braiding, or wearing a top bun it is crucial to wear a lightweight silk cap. The friction between your hair and the pillow case causes frizzy, knotted, unorganized hair and this will give you so much damage during the detangling process. I wake up, take my hair down and thats it. My tangle teezer or wide tooth comb goes through my hair smoothly and I dont loose any strands or ends! :D I purchased my lightweight silk cap from Blensblend [blensblend] for $25 and the quality is beautiful. At first wrapping may be difficult and tedious because it requires you to frame your hair around your head perfectly & tangle teeze or comb your hair multiple times in order for the strands to be straight but after awhile it will become easy so dont give up! Ive been using this method since Ive started my hair journey a few years back and I give credit for my length retention to this method along with the silk cap. (and of course proper mechanics and organic/naturally derived products) Something else that I think is important to share are products that I use before wrapping. I have found that it is best to not use a pure oil or pure butter before you wrap because it will cause your hair to have build up faster(depending on your hair type and how damaged your hair is. If it really bad then use grape seed or jojoba oil but not too much). Typically I just use a leave in conditioner such as Giovanni or Kinky Curly. There are times however that Ill add a little bit of oil (coconut, jojoba, grape seed or almond) to my ends but never all the way up the shaft to my roots. I also dont wrap when my hair is dripping wet or even damp because it will get your cap wet and cause everything to stink. So I wait until my hair is basically all dry before adding the leave in to my ends and then wrapping. I only use products that are free of parabens, PEGs, synthetics, sodium lauryl/laureth/coco sulfates, silicones, phthalates, dyes, unnaturally derived fragrances and of course animal bi-products. I use a cleanser on my scalp once a week and the rest of the week I water cleanse my scalp (about every other day) to really work the sebum(oil produced by scalp) down my shafts and to my ends. When I do cleanse my hair I use black African soap or Natures Gate(rarely, I only bought this to try a rosemary shampoo) I switch my cleansers up a lot* unlike my conditioner. Ive been using Giovanni Deeper Moisture since the beginning of my journey and havent traded it in for anything. Its the best product for me. Typically I shop at supplementwarehouse for all of my products because they have the cheapest prices and will price match + 5% off competitive prices. They also always give 5 dollars off of your purchase with coupon code and they have an inventory of free/closeout stuff!! That website has everything from fitness powders to hair and body care, oils, vitamins, food ect.. A lot of their inventory is organic or naturally derived and its always super duper cheap compared to other places. I only shop at TJ Maxx for my conditioner because retail price is 30 dollars but at TJs I get it for 12 bucks!! :O Not to mention the 33.8 oz bottle lasts me for months. I buy it like twice a year.
