As ranking member of the House Committee on Natural Resources: Democrats, I toured Floridas Everglades this week. Its one of our premier national parks, but its got a big problem: Burmese pythons that used to be pets but then escaped or were released into the wild. Invasive species like the python are wreaking havoc on the Florida ecosystem and its other mammals, and its costing millions of taxpayer dollars to address. I have joined the Humane Society to urge a ban on the import of these exotic pets. A ban would be better for everyone, including the snakes.
