As-salam alaykum I humbly invite you and your family members to the 1436 Muharram Lecture as detailed in the postal attached. Muharram Get-together, an initiative of The Muslim Congress, was conceived to serve as a platform for sensitizing humanity on the commencement of the Islamic Hijrah year called Muharram. It is a carnival-like event geared towards setting agenda for Muslim Ummah in Nigeria with regard to their civic responsibilities, spirit of sacrifice and zeal for nation-building. The programme is over sixteen (16) years old with an audience of over 5,000 at inception. Today, Muharram Get-together programme attracts over 30,000 audience and has given rise to several annual carnivals and get-together among other prominent Islamic organizations in Nigeria. Again, the programme has given life to the hopeless, raises ethical standards; reawakened sense of nationalism and patriotism has also rejuvenated and entrenched peaceful co-existence between Muslims and adherents of other faiths. Major feature of the programme are lectures, Islamic Arts Exhibition, Sales/Marketing, Entertainment, Recitation of Poem, Goodwill messages from Government, representatives of religious organisations, non-religious organisations, labour unions and civil societies, Lectures are centered on currents event within the country and/or around the world. The need to keep Muslims abreast of developments informed this. Entertainment activities on the other hand are to make delegates comfortable, relaxed and motivated through poems, drama and speech presentations. Arts Exhibition is to demonstrate the contribution of Islam and Muslims to the field and popularize the achievements of the Muslims. The programme is designed for both the professionals and the artisans. Sales/Marketing is allowed, as it is a forum for buyers and sellers to transact business and forged future business collaboration. OBJECTIVES OF MUHARRAM GET-TOGETHER 1. To serve as a platform for educating Muslims and non-Muslims on their civic responsibilities. 2. To provide a platform through which Islamic ethics and culture can be impacted on humanity in the spirit of the New Year. 3. To serve as alternative rescue programme for youth against social vices such as cultism, drug addiction, promiscuity, violence/gansterism, armed robbery and perverted behaviours. 4. To bring together Muslims and willing non-Muslim of different backgrounds and cultures and thus promote among them the feelings of brotherhood, unity and cooperation in the spirit of Muslim new year.
