As school begins and children go off from home, I am reminded of some feelings I have experienced. When children leave home you know that challenges lay ahead. You know that they will be tested physically, emotionally, and spiritually. In my case, I also knew that in some ways our home would never fully be their home again. When the day came when our children walked out that door, I was left with a moment for which I was unprepared. The pain of that hard goodbye felt unbearable. In such moments, I am thankful to have a heavenly Father who knows what it is to be separated from a beloved Son. I am thankful to have a God who is described as "a father of the fatherless, a defender of widows" (Psalm 68:5). I believe that if He cares for these, He will also care and comfort me, and my children. Loneliness comes when we forget about the One who is always with us.
