As shown by this article, the film Selma has already sparked refreshing analyses and perspective on the battle for racial equality. In my books, and original crafting of the civil rights story at the National Civil Right Museum, I try to integrate historical accuracy with my unique perspective framed by front line involvement in the civil rights movement. As many of my generation age, civil rights movement analyst have an enormous challenge to present an accurate and honest picture, so that todays activists can learn and be empowered by our strategies. I will participate in a panel discussion following an advance screening of Selma at the Malco Paridiso in Memphis, January 8th.
