As some of you know, I am working on collecting the personal testimonials of the students that I and my colleagues worked with in Palestine over the summer, as well as the stories and letters of their friends in Gaza. I received this one today. There are no appropriate words to describe this and the other letters I have received. They simply must be read. This is from Shymaa, a 15 year old girl who lives in Dura, near Hebron. I will introduce myself. I’m a Palestinian girl and I am 15 years old. I am a daughter of this wonderful state. I want all the world to know what is happening in this country. Israel invades and destroys and massacres and kills children, women and the elderly. With all of this, why are you doing this to us? How many of you would accept this happening to your people? How many of you? No one. A person does not give up his country easily, and I’m also not going to give up my Palestine. Until the last day of my life I will defend it to become free, which is the dream of our people. Who kills us, publishing our blood but not moving feelings? But God is always with us, with all our strength we’ll never give up. I want the world to hear my cry and children and Palestinian mothers. We die. I want you to stand beside us and help us to expel the occupation. Dear Israel: we are stronger than you, even though we do not have a weapon, just stones, and you possess the guns and rockets. But we have the most powerful of all this, a belief. O people, where are you? Can you hear what is happening with us? Are you deaf or are you afraid of the occupation? Where is your conscience, I advise you to look after them, because God will ask you for your conscience. I wonder, where are you?
