As some of you know, on February 27th, I was among AFSPs (American Foundation for Suicide Prevention) field advocates from all 50 states who met with and spoke to members of Congress and their staff to educate them about suicide prevention and mental health. Only one month later, one of the three initiatives we championed, the bipartisan bill, *Excellence in Mental Health Act*, has been included in the Medicare bill that has just passed both chambers of Congress! While there I was able to tell my story to many as well as explain my sadness in the many deaths by suicide we have had in our local High School community just this year alone...and the fact that the opinion of the schools leadership is that this is an issue best taken care of in the home. I am seeing signs of change and one of those is that I will be able to speak today at Montgomerys School Health Advisory Council! I am SO proud of my community and excited to be a voice of hope for those out there who might be waiting for that branch to reach out to... Hang on, it IS coming!!
