As some of you may have noticed, PDX Bike Swarm has been on something of a hiatus. As has been the case with the Occupy movement in general, many individuals have moved in other directions or reached their own burnout points. Over the last year, many within our activist community have focused on local issues like preserving our clean drinking water, police violence, government accountability, and our homeless crisis. While bicycles have been part of these various struggles, unfortunately, Bike Swarm hasnt been involved in any official capacity. Last week, a group of Swarm alumni met to discuss these ongoing issues, as well as its own absence. After a positive discussion that inspired mutual understanding regarding goals and direction, it was decided by consensus that theres simply too much at stake for this group not to get back to doing what it does best. Were pleased to announce that PDX Bike Swarm is back! Just in time for spring action in the year 2014, were going to be making a renewed organizational effort to once again hold regular rides and meetings. Well continue to support campaigns like the Peoples Water Trust, groups fighting for housing justice like Right 2 Dream Too, and climate justice organizations like Portland Rising Tide. Most importantly, well be getting bikes in the street to ensure working for a more just equitable world stays fun - first and foremost. Well ride swift and strong. We are a tactic. We are a team.
